Some new photos from the set of Iron Man 3 have surfaced on the web and they appear to reveal a FANTASTIC teaser about a certain organization from the comics who look to be making their first appearance in the upcoming film. Based on the images from the set in Cary, North Carolina, it appears that the infamous terrorist organization, A.I.M., will be featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The new clues come from a sign posted in front of a building that clearly reads ‘AIM: Advanced Idea Mechanics’ on the front. Words cannot describe how excited this makes us as A.I.M plays a HUGE role in the comics and helps bridge together many of the Easter eggs that we’ve already seen in Marvel’s films, from M.O.D.O.K. to the Cosmic Cube.
From On Location Vacations –
“One of our readers, A. K. Trujillo, told us, “The crowd was told to be quiet when shots were filmed outside, or else they would heighten security and ban spectators from watching. [There were] no big action scenes. All actors were in business suits or security uniforms. The director was heard yelling, “Action”, “Turn, Turn, Turn, Turn” and “Cut”.” Though the photos were taken from a distance, you can see a few extras in uniform and a decorated tree that indicates the scene is set during the holidays.
In the comic books, A.I.M. is actually an offshoot of HYDRA, Red Skull’s loyal army as seen in Captain America: The First Avenger. Originally, A.I.M. was responsible for designing and manufacturing the weapons used by HYDRA and, in the comics, were the ones responsible for creating the Cosmic Cube. Eventually, the group went underground after Nick Fury exposed the sinister nature of the organization.
Nevetheless, this is VERY exciting news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general and we can’t wait to see what connections will be made between Iron Man 3 and subsequent Marvel sequels.
Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Ashley Hamilton and James Badge Dale and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 3rd, 2013.
