The second trailer has arrived for Nickelodeon’s upcoming CGI Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, showing off some of the various villains that our heroes will be facing when the series premieres on September 29th, 2012. The new animated series will take several few liberties from the popular 1990s show as well as the 2003 series, adding additional weapons and mixing up some of the fighting styles that we’ve come to expect from our heroes in a half shell.
“Funnier and with more Ninjutsu than ever before, the show will explore the companionship of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes in a half-shell that they are destined to be.”
While we feel it’s important to remain optimistic about anything TMNT-related (we love our mutant franchise), we have our doubts that the new show will impress us much. After the more serious tone of the 2003 animated series as well as the TMNT movie released back in 2007, both of which came close to capturing the spirit of the original comic books, the animation and writing of Nickelodeon’s upcoming series come off as being a little too “cute” for our tastes.
Granted it’s Nickelodeon, but hey, we like our turtles badass.
