Well that was fast. Arriving on the heels of the news that Ben Affleck may be in the running to direct the Justice League movie for Warner Bros., Deadline is now shooting down the reports coming in from Variety saying that Affleck’s reps have confirmed that he will NOT be involved in the production.
Despite the fact that many on the internet trashed the studio’s choice after the Ben Affleck story spread, it’s actually fairly reasonable to believe that Warner Bros. could have offered him the job. After all, he has proven his directing chops with such films as Gone Baby Gone and The Town, the latter being a Warner Bros. film.
Of course, Warner Bros. first choice for director would have to be Christopher Nolan, who just completed the record-breaking and critically acclaimed Batman trilogy and is also producing the studio’s Man of Steel Superman reboot. Given that the director has stated that he has no interest in helming a Justice League movie, the second director on the studio’s short list is David Yates who directed four of the Harry Potter films.
And while Deadline states that Affleck’s representatives have denied that the actor is on the fast track towards directing the Justice League, it’s still likely that the studio will try to set up a meeting just to explore their options.
