Deadline is reporting that actor Christopher Eccleston has been tapped to play [one of] the lead villain roles in Marvel Studios’ superhero sequel, Thor: The Dark World. According to Deadline, Eccleston, best known to U.S. audiences as the Ninth Doctor in Dr. Who, will be taking the role of Malekith The Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim.
On top of last week’s rumors that tunnels were being built on the current sets in London, all signs seems to seems to suggest that we may get some large-scale peeks at the cavernous and semi-underground world of Svartalfheim. As to whether or not will be seeing this villain as a reoccurring fixture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen when the Alan Taylor-directed film arrives in theaters on November 8, 2013.
Despite the changing of directors, audiences will see Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba and Rene Russo reprising their roles from the first film.
