Out of all of Marvel Studios’ announced projects, Guardians of the Galaxy is easily one of the most anticipated movies on the horizon. Most fans are aware of just how big of a chance Marvel is taking by introducing this team of intergalactic superheroes to moviegoing audiences, especially those who aren’t familiar with the source material. Despite the initial announcement of the film, the studio has remained relatively mum about the details surrounding the “big space epic”, leaving fans on the edge of their seats as they await new info.
It appears that fans may be getting their first taste of the film in the form of a brief plot summary that’s been posted on the reliable industry site, Production Weekly. Providing a rundown of future film and television projects, the attached PDF document includes a brief plot synopsis for each individual project, including the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
“A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.”
Granted, it’s not much to go on, but it does provide a few new details that shed some light on how the plot will develop. After doing the math here at GeekRest, we figure that the U.S. pilot mentioned in the summary could be one of two individuals from the Marvel Comics source material. The most obvious answer might be that the U.S. pilot is in fact Peter Quill, who was part of the original Guardians of the Galaxy team and a former NASA astronaut who takes up the mantle of the interplanetary policeman known as Star-Lord. Being how Quill is essentially the leader of the Guardians team, it’s most likely that he is the “U.S. pilot” that the synopsis refers to.
An additional possibility is that the mystery pilot could be Vance Astrovik, another founding member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in an alternate timeline. Like Quill, Astrovik is also a NASA astronaut who finds himself acquiring telekinetic powers after meeting his future time-traveling self. Whatever the case may be, it’s safe to assume that the “futuristic ex-cons” are the additional members of the Guardians of the Galaxy team; Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot, Rocket Raccoon.
Then again, nothing is official until it’s confirmed by Marvel and/or Disney but it’s sure fun to speculate! The film is currently being re-written by Chris McCoy, working from a script by Nicole Perlman and while no director or cast announcements have been made, the film is expected to be released on August 1, 2014.
