With Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World having already begun filming their parts for second phase of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, actor Chris Evans is primed and ready to begin filming his own sequel early next year, which based on several story arcs from comic book writer Ed Brubaker. Currently titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the upcoming sequel will begin to tell the story of Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, who becomes brainwashed by Russian agents and eventually makes his return as the iconic Russian Assassin known as the Winter Soldier.
Fans of the comics are more than excited to see how this will translate to the big screen, especially after Chris Evans’ comments about how the Winter Soldier story arc was always in the cards.
There were always hints at that. The best thing about [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige is he’s a fan. He’s not just a businessman, he’s a rabid comic book fan. Even during the first Captain America, well before The Avengers, there were whispers of [Winter Soldier] being the sequel. So I’m excited to tackle that.
The actor also touches on the addition of Anthony Mackie who was recently cast as Sam Wilson (ie, The Falcon).
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie and is expected to arrive in theaters on April 4, 2014.
