NY Daily News Reveals Major Character Death in ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’ [SPOILER]

Fans of the Avengers Vs. X-Men series may wish to pass this article by if they haven’t yet read the latest issue of the event, which arrives on store shelves today. Seriously, there are some MAJOR SPOILERS ahead! Continuing the trend that Marvel seems to have developed for spoiling major plot points through various media outlets as their books hit the shelves, the New York Daily News have revealed a major character death in the most recent issue of Avengers Vs. X-Men.

The Daily News has confirmed that one of the major characters of the X-Men family will meet his demise in the final pages of Avengers Vs. X-Men #11 as Cyclops is overtaken by the “Dark Phoenix” influence and….here it is…KILLS Charles Xavier with a blast from his cosmic force.

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso also spoke with the newspaper about the creative team’s decision to kill the professor, saying “He needed to be the casualty in this story. There’s no more oh-sh– moment that you can bring than having a son killing his father.” Cyclops has long been Professor X’s star pupil in the X-Men books, adding even more of an emotional punch to the last few panels of the book. Brian Michael Bendis went on to state that Professor X “was this thing that was just floating around the X-books, with not the same amount of gravitas that he once had. I did point out that he would matter more in death. The moment is shocking, and certainly will be talked about by message boards forever and ever, but it’s really about what you get afterwards. What Cyclops has to do now, is dig himself out of the biggest, deepest hole in the history of comic books.”

Avengers Vs. X-Men #11 arrives in local comic book stores today.
