Columbia Pictures has announced that both Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb have officially signed on for the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, which is now on schedule for a May 2, 2014 release. Given the fresh start (or relaunch) of the latest Spider-Man film franchise, it’s no big surprise that the studio would have Andrew Garfield don the red and blue suit for an additional installment. What fans were not sure of, however, was if director Marc Webb would be returning to helm the sequel.
The Amazing Spider-Man grossed an impressive $751 million worldwide, making it the fourth-highest grossing film of the year (so far) and proving that the creative forces behind the new reboot have what it takes to move the story forward. What’s interesting to note is that Emma Stone, who portrayed Gwen Stacy (ie, Peter Parker’s love interest), has yet to confirm her return to the sequel and remains “in talks” with the studio. While anything is possible when it comes to casting, fans are quite certain that Emma Stone will return for the sequel to share the screen once again with her real-life love interest, Andrew Garfield.
Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will star Andrew Garfield and is expected to arrive on theaters on May 2, 2014.
