Several new photos have surfaced from the set of Thor: The Dark World, currently being filmed in Bourne Woods, Surrey, which depict the epic battle sequence that we all knew was coming based on the leaked shooting schedule. In fact, it appears that many of the structures that we’ve seen in earlier set photos have been rigged with pyrotechnics and are currently meeting their fiery demise in front of the camera.
The new photos show off an explosive battle sequence between Asgardian forces and an unknown army known only as the Marauders, all of which takes place on the grounds of a “fictional village set in another realm.” The Asgardian army can clearly be spotted wearing the classic gold and green color scheme armor while wearing helmets that bear a slight resemblance to Loki’s signature crown.
In addition to the nearly 300 extras that are on hand to film the battle, actress Jaimie Alexander was spotted riding horseback as she reprises her role of Sid, the Asgardian warrior who makes up one of the Warriors Three from the first Thor film. Alexander is one of several actors returning to reprise their roles from the original movie, including Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgård and more.
Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba and Rene Russo is expected to arrive in theaters on November 8th, 2013.
