Sony has announced that they will be releasing a brand new ‘Super Slim’ model of the Playstation 3 while holding a press conference at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The new PS3 is being billed as the ‘Super Slim’ model and with very good reason. The new device is 25% smaller and roughly 20% lighter than the slim model that’s currently on the market.
Sony also presented audiences with a glimpse at two different color schemes for the PS3; black and white. While it’s been confirmed that both color schemes will be available to Japanese consumers, it still remains unknown at this point if the same options will be offered in North America. The updated model will come in both 250GB and 500GB versions which will arrive with an attached retail price of $269 and $299, respectively. The 250GB version will come bundled with the ‘Game of the Year’ edition of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception as well as downloadable content for Dust 514 while the 500GB version will come bundled with Assassin’s Creed III.
According to the company, both of these models will become available in the US on September 25.
In Europe, a 500GB model will be made available on September 28 for 299s Euro while a 12GB model, which will forego the use of a standard hard drive and instead use flash memory for storage, will arrive in stores on September 28 at a cost of 299 Euros.
