In a rather sudden change of course for 20th Century Fox, Matthew Vaughn has reportedly dropped out of the running to direct the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Deadline first reported the change in production while also revealing that the film studio now has director Bryan Singer on the short list to step in and helm the movie. The fact that Singer would make the short list is no great surprise as he was the first to launch the X-Men film franchise for 20th Century Fox with some very impressive box-office results. Singer has also been heavily involved with X-Men: First Class as well as Days Of Future Past, providing both written treatments for the films and taking on the role of producer (along with Vaughn) for the upcoming sequel.
X-Men: Days Of Future Past already has a completed script as well as a release date set for July 18, 2014. As to whether or not the release date will be pushed back as a result of Vaughn stepping down remains to be seen.
Are you sad to see Vaughn leave the project?
