Marvel Animation Studios has released three new stills from their upcoming Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes animated movie, the first direct-to-DVD feature to be released from Marvel Animation Studios. Combining both CGI imagery and hand-drawn animation, the upcoming feature will follow the escapades of Tony Stark (voiced by Adrian Pasdar) and Bruce Banner (voiced by Fred Tatasciore) as they take on the villain known as Zzzax. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, Zzzax was first introduced in The Incredible Hulk #166 as a creature born of pure energy who can also absorb the minds of his victims.
Jeph Loeb described the plot as being an origin story for the villain.
“We see his origin in the movie. It’s what would happen if the entire Eastern seaboard [electrical grid] went out. The two heroes meet up, thinking of each other as to blame. Calamity ensues.”
Fans of Marvel’s blockbuster movie, The Avengers, have been more than eager to see Bruce Banner and Tony Stark team up once again since their chemistry first unfolded on the big screen. But will Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United follow the same buddy formula that we saw in The Avengers?
“We welcome people to interpret any way they like,” says Loeb. “In tone and character, we want to follow our best leader. The challenge was to pick up the banter between the two of them. Certainly, Adrian Pasdar’s performance is inspired by what Robert Downey Jr. does, and Mark laid down such an incredible path for us to be able to follow.”
Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United will arrive on both DVD and Blu-ray on April 23rd, 2013.
