THR has reported that Hugh Jackman is currently in talks to reprise his role as Wolverine for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the highly anticipated sequel to X-Men: First Class. If true, this would mark the seventh time that Jackman has taken on the role of the classic Marvel character and would mark the third time he’s reprised the role under the direction of Bryan Singer.
Earlier this week, the director announced via Twitter that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would be reprising their original roles as Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively. The announcement only seemed to further solidify the fan speculation that Days of Future Past would be following the classic comic book storyline of the same name written by Chris Claremont in 1981. This storyline involves elements of time travel and an alternate future timeline in which mutants are hunted down and placed in concentration camps after the present-day X-Men team fail to stop the assassination of a prominent Senator.
Fans may remember Jackman reprising his role as the Wolverine for a brief cameo appearance in X-Men: First Class so it may not be so farfetched to suspect that he may return in the sequel, particularly with his sequel to his own solo Wolverine film arriving next year.
