After having first surfaced online as a rumor via Daily Mail, Variety has now confirmed that actor Paul Bettany has been cast as The Vision in Joss Whedon’s highly-anticipated sequel, The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Joss Whedon’s pilot episode for S.H.I.E.L.D. officially began filming last month, kicking off Marvel’s attempt to bring their established Cinematic Universe to the small screen. Fans couldn’t be more excited for the studio’s foray into television, and while the network has yet to greenlight the series beyond the pilot, ABC studio execs are clearly very confident that the show will find its legs right out of the gate and move forward with additional episodes. The fact that Joss Whedon has agreed to direct and co-write the pilot with his brother Jed practically cements the feeling there’s really very little chance for a flop to arrive when the show (fingers crossed) makes its way to living rooms in the Fall.
Without a doubt, one of the most ambitious projects that Marvel Studios currently has in the works is the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Set to be directed by James Gunn, the film follows the exploits of an intergalactic team of superheroes that include the other-worldly Marvel characters Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and the fan-favorite, Rocket Raccoon.
Adam and Aaron are back for another new episode of The Seventh Day, talking about Rob Liefeld’s latest Twitter rants against Batman writer Scott Snyder, DC Comics announcing a new ‘Before Watchmen’ addition as well as a new ‘Justice League of America’ book, Joss Whedon co-writing a ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series, Star Wars Celebration IV and more!
Marvel has made their first big move concerning Phase 2 of their media empire since revealing Joss Whedon’s planned involvement in bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe into television. According to reports, ABC has now ordered a pilot episode for a planned S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series with Joss Whedon set to co-write.
Rumors have begun to circulate that, after a conference call with Walt Disney Studios, Joss Whedon will officially be returning to both write AND direct the sequel to The Avengers! The new was reported by Marc Graser, a journalist at Daily Variety who first posted the news on his Twitter page. As if that news wasn’t enough, Disney also confirmed that Whedon will be involved in the development of a live-action television series which will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paul Lee, the Entertainment President for ABC, recently spoke about the current status of several Marvel television shows while speaking in a conference call with reporters. One of the first announcements, that should come as no surprise to most, is that Guillermo del Toro’s Hulk series is right on track for development with the goal of having it premiere next season. It’s safe to assume that the network’s placing all their chips on the Hulk based on the overwhelmingly positive response the character received in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers and with Disney being the parent company for both ABC and Marvel Entertainment, the network’s got lightning in a bottle and they’re not about to let it go.
